School of Molecular and Theoretical Biology

Admission

Dear All,

The application call to the School of Molecular and Theoretical Biology 2025 is now closed.

The SMTB Admission Committee has completed the evaluation of all applications and has sent out the admission results for SMTB-2025. We received many great applications and conducted approximately 130 interviews with candidates. Each applicant should have received an email with the committee’s decision. If you applied to SMTB-2025 but did not receive an email, please check your spam folder first. If you still cannot find it, please contact us at our official email address. Due to the high volume of submissions, the Admissions Committee is unable to provide comments on specific decisions or feedback on individual applications.

We would like to thank all of the applicants who took the time to apply and the individuals who wrote letters of support. We are also grateful to everyone who helped spread the word about SMTB and the call for applications.

SMTB is supported by the Zimin Foundation.

The season will be held from June 29 to July 15, 2025 in Nazarbayev University (NU) in Astana (Kazakhstan). We will do everything we can to welcome all accepted students regardless of the place of their residence.

Participation is free of charge for all accepted students. This includes living expenses, medical insurance for those who require it to travel to SMTB, and all materials needed for lab work.

We ask parents to cover travel costs to the city where the School will take place. We understand that transportation costs may be prohibitive for some applicants, so we offer financial support to all students who need it. Details about travel arrangements will be discussed directly with the parents of invited students.

Lodging will be provided in one of the dormitories of the hosting institution, where faculty and students will reside in the same building.

More details about SMTB season and F.A.Q. can be found on our website. Information about financial support can be found here.

To participate in SMTB, students will need a valid travel passport or another document that allows them to travel abroad and stay in the city where SMTB takes place, for the duration of the SMTB season. In some cases, a visa may also be required. The SMTB staff will provide all necessary support and paperwork and, when appropriate, offer financial assistance to cover the costs of the visa application fee and the travel to the nearest visa service center.

The School of Molecular and Theoretical Biology does not discriminate, in the admission process or otherwise, on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, age, sexual orientation, disability or any other potentially discriminatory factors or circumstances.

We strive to present an equal opportunity for all applicants. Inquiries regarding the application process or other aspects of SMTB can be addressed to us through our email (smtb@molbioschool.org) to our Manager Anna Puzyreva or by telephone to our Scientific Director, Fyodor Kondrashov (+81-70-1478 0347).
